The WLURA Annual Meeting was held on Friday, May 29, at 2:00 p.m., at the 202 Regina Street lounge. The agenda included the election of the 2026–27 Executive.
Preceding the AGM:
“Pay no attention to that AI behind the curtain!” How Artificial Intelligence Is Helping Internet Scammers
Terry Labach gave an overview of the new threats posed by the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools by cybercriminals. He gave a brief overview of current AI capabilities, followed by a comparison of traditional scams and how they’ve become more dangerous when enhanced by AI software. He concluded with some suggestions on protecting your privacy and your wallet in the face of new threats.
This was not a technical talk, and was intended be useful for any typical Internet user.
